N. Korea tests underwater nuclear weapon system
North Korea was testing an underwater nuclear weapon system from March 21 to March 23, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) revealed.
"This weapon system, named 'Tsunami', a nuclear unmanned underwater attack boat, has undergone more than 50 tests over the past two years," the news agency shared. The attack boats were submerged for 59 hours, at depths of between 80 meters and 150 meters. The purpose of the weapon is to "destroy" groups of adversaries' ships and major ports of operation by "causing a powerful radioactive tsunami through an underwater explosion."
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, who visited the site, stressed the need for "offensive action to raise awareness of the unlimited nuclear war deterrence capability," KCNA reported.
