N. Korea to intensify cyber attacks against Seoul, US - report

Pyongyang is likely to increase efforts aimed at hacking financial institutions based in South Korea and the United States, Yonhap reported on Monday citing a scientist at the Seoul Institute for National Security Strategy (INSS).

"North Korea is expected to continue increasing cyber attacks on financial institutions and cryptocurrency exchanges across the globe in 2021 to raise foreign currency as trade with China has been suspended due to COVID-19," the report read, adding that such moves could push US President Joe Biden to take more "aggressive measures against Pyongyang."

During the previous week, the US State Department expressed commitment to "reducing the threat" that North Korea allegedly presents for both the US, and "its allies and partners."
