NATO 'deeply regrets' Russia's Open Skies withdrawal

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) stated on Friday it "deeply regrets" Russia's decision to withdraw from the Open Skies Treaty on December 18. NATO added Moscow has "for many years refused to fully comply with its obligations," adding it shares its concerns about Russia's actions with the United States, which also pulled out of the deal during the Trump administration.

"We continue to aspire to a constructive relationship with Russia, when Russia's actions make that possible. We urge Russia to use the remaining six months before its withdrawal takes effect to reconsider its decision and return to full compliance with the Treaty on Open Skies," NATO stated.
