NATO spying charges baseless - Zakharova

There is no evidence that staffers expelled from the Russian diplomatic mission to NATO had been involved in any espionage, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday.

Zakharova expressed the opinion that activities Russian diplomats were involved in during their mandates aren't any different from the work NATO representatives regularly engage in all over the world, saying that NATO should "recall their operatives from Russia" if it finds this practice "impermissible."

"We should be aware that NATO has systematically ruined relations with Russia to opt for the Cold War logic," Zakharova noted, emphasizing the role current Secretary-General, Jens Stoltenberg, had in the deterioration of Russia-NATO relations.
