Nestle shifts focus away from skin care products

Nutrition, health and wellness are among the core sectors according to the board's strategic view, Nestle SA said on Thursday, but also revealed it would examine the options for the future of its skin health portfolio. Opportunities for the division "lie increasingly outside" the company's approach and the review should be finished by the end of June of next year, the statement adds. Exploration of strategic options usually results in a sale or a spinoff.

The management stressed it remains concentrated on food, beverage and nutritional health. The skin care line, which includes Epiduo, Soolantra, Restylane, Azzalure, Cetaphil and Proactiv, is headquartered in Lausanne. The unit has 5,000 employees in 40 countries and last year sales came in at 2.7 billion Swiss francs, Nestle said.

"Sharpening our strategic focus on Nestle's core food, beverage and nutritional health products offers the best opportunity for long-term profitable growth and is fully in line with the pursuit of our company's purpose," said board chairman Paul Bulcke.
