Netflix to charge $6.99 per month for new ad plan

Netflix Inc. said Thursday that it is launching its new plan, "Basic with Ads," promoted by the company as the "lower priced advert-supported plan." According to the platform, it will start at "$6.99 a month in the US" and begin "on November 3 at 9:00 am PT."

"Basic with Ads" will initially be open in 12 countries, including the US, UK, Canada, Germany, Japan, Brazil, and Australia. However, the idea is to launch it in more places over time.

The company expects the number of viewers of its ad-supported tier to reach 40 million worldwide by the third quarter of 2023 in an effort to improve on this year's poor results.
