Newark airport temporarily closed over drone sighting

The Federal Aviation Administration temporarily suspended all traffic at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey after two drones were seen flying over the nearby Teterboro Airport.

After two pilots reported seeing drones at Teterboro Airport that handles private planes, takeoffs from Newark as well as arrivals were halted. Landings were later resumed but planes heading for the airport from other cities were blocked from taking off due to the backlog.

Earlier, London's Heathrow and Gatwick airports were closed due to drone sightings. The incidents pushed the United Kingdom government to give police new powers to deal with the illegal use of drone technology.
