Apple Pay expands U.S. partner network with 27 banks

Apple Inc.'s mobile payment system added 27 participating banks to its list for the United States on Friday, according to an update on its website. The set of financial entities was enlarged two weeks ago with twelve partners in mainland China, as Apple Pay entered the market. New names on the list include the Bank of England, PNC Bank – Global Investment Servicing, and First Bank. The scheme is also operational in Australia and Canada via American Express Co., and the United Kingdom, where it is supported by 15 financial companies. The system has over one thousand members in the U.S.

Apple jumped 1.24% to $102.7405 per share at 5:04 p.m. CET, outpacing benchmark index Nasdaq 100, which inched 0.18% up. The company is 2.32% down from the start of the year.
