Sweden: Unemployment falls to 7.6% in February

The number of unemployed persons in Sweden fell by 37 thousand in February, with 396 thousand people unemployed, which represents unemployment rate of 7.6%, down from 8.4% recorded in January, according to data from Statistics Sweden (SCB) published on Thursday.

There were 4,806,000 persons aged 15-74 employed, not seasonally adjusted, in the northern European country. Seasonally adjusted data show an increase in both the number of employees and permanently employed persons. "But the increase in the employment rate is lower than in previous months," said the SCB report.

The average number working week amounted 158.0 million hours in February, the same as in February 2015.

The OMX Stockholm 30 index was up 0.10% to 1,394 points.

The Swedish krona was fractionally weaker to the euro, just 0.01% down, putting the rate at €1 for 9.2155 krona.
