Unemployment in Switzerland inches down to 3.5% in April

There were 149,540 people registered in job centres in Switzerland at the end of last month, according to data released on Tuesday by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). The number is 5,784 lower than in March, while the unemployment rate decreased by 0.1 percentage point to 3.5% from that month, the report said. Against April of last year, the number of persons without work climbed by 8,409.

The number of unemployed people between 15 and 24 years of age fell by 1,034 to 17,871 on the month but increased by 389 from April 2015. There were 210,926 jobseekers registered last month, 7,261 less than in March and 11,580 more on a yearly basis. The franc was virtually flat compared to the euro, the dollar and the pound, while it strengthened 0.37% against the yen and 0.21% versus the Australian dollar.
