U.S. nonfarm payrolls rise 38,000 in May, unemployment 4.7%

The United States unemployment rate decreased by 0.3 percentage point to 4.7% in May while nonfarm payroll employment rose just 38,000, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said in a report on Friday.

Employment showed growth in health care, but in mining sector it continued to decline. Information sector was losing jobs due to a strike.

The overall number of unemployed persons declined by 484,000 to 7.4 million. The number of persons who lost job and those who completed temporary jobs declined by 282,000 over the month to 3.6 million.
