Oil rig count: U.S. adds 9 oil rigs, Canada shuts 1 oil rig

There were 325 oil rigs active in the United States on June 3, or 9 more than a week ago. The number of gas rigs fell by 5 to 82. In the comparable report from a year ago, there were 642 oil rigs and the number of gas units stood at 222 in the United States of America, according to Baker Hughes' Rotary Rig Count.

The number of oil rigs in Canada was lower by 1, at a total of 13 operating on June 3. Canada had 59 oil rigs a year ago. There were 28 gas rigs in the current report, the same as the last week. Canada closed 29 gas rigs in one year, when there were 57 operational.

North American light sweet crude West Texas Intermediate for July delivery was down 0.63% at $48.71 a barrel. The crude lost 0.79% this week.

Premium international blend Brent for August delivery contracted 0.56% lower at $49.66 per barrel at ICE Europe by 7:00p.m. CET. The crude rose 1.17% for the week.

The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries earlier reported its OPEC daily basket price of 13 crudes at $45.58 a barrel on Thursday, compared with $45.19 the previous day.

Natural gas dropped 2.26%. Gasoil was 1.34% lower, while heating oil prices went 1.12% down.
