Turkish lira recuperates, equities slump

Stocks of Turkish companies fell on Monday in the aftermath of a failed coup attempt, while the government of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was consolidating power and clamping down on political opponents. 

The Dow Jones Turkey Titans 20 Index dropped 2.3% to 836.02 points, after sinking as low as 832.65. The lira rose 2.83% against the dollar, to change hands for 2.9308. Compared to the euro, the Turkish currency was up 2.38% at 3.2414 (all 9:07 a.m. CET). Earlier it strengthened to 2.9266 and 3.2364, respectively.
