S&P 500, Nasdaq Composite open at record highs

Major stock indexes in the United States opened with gains on Friday, with the Wall Street barometer S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite taking off at all-time highs, as the post-election rally carries on.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average index increased 0.18% at 3:54 p.m. CET. Pfizer Inc. and Apple Inc. rose the most, up by 1.19% and 1.04%, respectively.

The Nasdaq 100 added 0.68% at 3:58 p.m. CET, while the Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.57% after reaching a record high of 5,448.886 points.

The S&P 500 gained 0.22% at 4:03 p.m. CET, having reached an all-time high of 2,253.73 points when markets opened. Biogen Inc. surged 5.51% on renewed hopes the pharmaceutical company's closely-watched Alzheimer's drug will be a success.

The U.S. dollar index rallied 0.53% to 101.63 at 4:06 p.m. CET, while in the fixed income market the yield on 10-year Treasuries inched up to 2.4092% at the same time. The yield on two-year government bonds declined to 1.1087% and the equivalent on 30-year debt edged up to 3.1103%.
