US Senate confirms Gorsuch to Supreme Court

United States Senate has confirmed Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court on Friday to become the 113th justice, ending a 14-month partisan battle to fill the seat following the death of Justice Antonin Scalia.

The Senate voted 54 to 45 to confirm President Donald Trump's nominee, giving him a lifetime spot on the Supreme Court after a contentious political brawl. The vote came after Republican lawmakers altered the chamber's rules, eliminating the 60-vote filibuster threshold on Supreme Court nominees and allowing the final vote with a simple majority.

The development signals a triumph for the president and his campaign pledge to appoint a conservative to succeed Justice Scalia, who died in February last year.
