Fed's Kaplan still sees three rate hikes in 2017

The baseline view is still that the United States Federal Reserve will raise interest rates three times in total this year, President of Dallas Fed Robert Kaplan said on Tuesday.

If the pace of economic growth in the US is faster than expected, the US central bank could increase the cost of borrowing more than three times, the policymaker, who is a voting member of the Fed's rate-setting panel, said. Conversely, if the pace of growth is slower than anticipated, there could be even less than three rate hikes this year, he added.

Globalization could be a tool to boost growth in the US, Kaplan stated, expressing his worries over President Donald Trump's immigration and trade policies. While some of Trump's proposals are positive, some are really concerning, he added.
