Euro hits half-year high compared to dollar

The euro rallied on Tuesday as investors became increasingly confident in political stability in the continent after a meeting of new French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Statistical releases showed improvement in the health of the economy of the monetary union. On the other side of the Atlantic, the dollar dropped compared to the euro, the franc and the yen amid controversy related to the information provided by United States President Donald Trump to Russia.

The joint currency jumped 0.86% to $1.10702. The session high of $1.108 was unseen since November 9, following Trump's election. The euro strengthened 0.85% to £0.8582 after climbing to £0.85952, the strongest point since March 31. The exchange rate against the Japanese yen increased 0.62% to 125.636, following a rise to as much as 125.814, the highest since April 29.
