ECB's Jazbec: Fear too strong for policy change

Central banks remember the so-called taper tantrum of 2013 in the United States, and policymakers in the Eurozone must weigh carefully before turning any switches in monetary stimulus, Bostjan Jazbec said and compared the caution with the first skiing after healing a broken leg. The member of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank told the Wall Street Journal the measures work in sync and that the economy would not react well to "any abrupt changes" in just one of the tools.

A review of the policy mix can be considered only after "more consistent and lasting" upward price pressure is observed, the Slovenian economist underscored in an interview published on Thursday. He cited requests and demands for change in the course of the ECB's strategy as coming "too soon" and stated no one in the institution "dares to declare the victory yet."
