Bitcoin sees correction, trades around $2,500

After soaring to record-highs of $2,760.10 earlier in the day, the world's most widespread digital currency bitcoin traded around the $2,500 mark on Thursday. Despite the small dip, bitcoin has risen 29.95% in the past week and surged over 200% in the last six months.

The recent surge was fuelled by news that the Digital Currency Group reached a scaling agreement to increase bitcoin's transaction capacity, as well as Rootstock's announcement of the launch of its open source Testnet, Ginger, which adds more features to the cryptocurrency.

The bitcoin climbed 2.67% to sell for $2,485 and it jumped 3.87% compared to the euro to go for 2,200. The digital currency traded 3.43% higher against the Chinese yuan, changing hands for 18,100.
