CBOE, Winklevoss twins sign Bitcoin data deal
Cryptocurrency exchange operator Gemini Trust Co., run by Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, agreed to provide Bitcoin market data to CBOE Holdings Inc., which manages the largest options marketplace in the United States – Chicago Board Options Exchange, the two entities said on Wednesday. The two investors are still waiting for the review of the decision by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to block the foundation of a Bitcoin exchange-traded fund in March on the platform.
CBOE said it will use the data for derivatives and indices. "Pending regulatory review, the collaboration begins with plans to launch cash-settled bitcoin futures on CBOE Futures Exchange (CFE) by the fourth quarter... Under the terms of the agreement, CBOE will have a multi-year exclusive global license permitting it to use Gemini's market data, including Gemini daily bitcoin auction values, in the creation of bitcoin derivatives products for listing and trading," the statement adds.
Tyler Winklevoss highlighted Gemini's focus on security, compliance and regulatory oversight, and expressed determination to make the Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies more accessible to both retail and institutional investors.
