ISIS takes responsibility for Barcelona van attack

The Islamic State (ISIS) took responsibility for the deadly van attack in Barcelona that left 13 people dead and more than 80 injured, Amaq news agency reported on Thursday. The outlet linked to the militarist group claimed that perpetrators were "soldiers of the Islamic State."

Earlier today, a van rammed into a group of pedestrians in Barcelona's Las Ramblas district, with one of the suspects arrested and identified as Driss Oukabir. The area has since been evacuated, with reports suggesting that another perpetrator died in an exchange of fire with the police. The authorities confirmed they were treating the incident as a terrorist attack.

According to the latest update, Oukabir has been identified as a Moroccan with a permanent residence in Spain, who was previously jailed for sexual abuse in 2012.
