US bans Kaspersky tools in government agencies

The Department of Homeland Security ordered all institutions under the administration in Washington to come up with solutions which exclude the utilization of products of Russia's Kaspersky Lab and related entities. The statement issued on Wednesday concerns information security, including antivirus programs. The government argues there are risks of "malicious" attacks and that "certain" leading figures in the company may be connected with the Kremlin's intelligence agencies. The cybersecurity powerhouse was called to address the concerns.

The implementation is scheduled to start within 90 days. "The risk that the Russian government, whether acting on its own or in collaboration with Kaspersky, could capitalize on access provided by Kaspersky products to compromise federal information and information systems directly implicates US national security. The department's priority is to ensure the integrity and security of federal information systems," the document said.
