Euro declines after Catalonia referendum

The Eurozone currency took a downward trend on Monday following preliminary results of Catalonia referendum that showed 90% voted for independence from Spain. Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said there "was no referendum" and that Spain "maintains its strength and reacts and acts with all its resources against any kind of provocation."

The euro fell 0.41% against the dollar, trading near its daily lows and buying 1.1765 at 7:55 am CET. At the same time, the pound declined 0.28% against the greenback to go for 1.336 while the Swiss franc decreased 0.27% and changed hands for 1.0305.
