Nebraska approves Keystone XL pipeline

The Nebraska Public Service Commission approved on Monday the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline through the so-called "mainland alternative route." The commission voted 3 against to 2 to approve the route for the crude oil pipeline, owned by TransCanada Corporation, across the state of Nebraska. The project attracted widespread attention to due environmentalists protesting the pipeline, prompting former President Barack Obama to halt the construction in 2015. However, President Donald Trump approved the permit's for the completion of the system shortly after taking office in January.

The Keystone XL would bring oil from Alberta, Canada to Steele City in Nebraska, where it would connect to the rest of the Keystone system that ends in the US Gulf Coast. Th alternative route approved was not TransCanada's preferred one and, if built, will go through several different counties than previously proposed.
