Europe closes mixed on Brexit talks setback

European markets closed mixed on Wednesday after reports emerged the United Kingdom and the European Union will not come up with a Brexit deal this week. The agreement was delayed after Northern Ireland’s Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) leader Arlene Foster said the party will "not be rushed" into an unfavorable deal and claimed the draft deal she saw earlier in the week came as a "big shock."

The FTSE 100 rose 0.28%. Whitbread led the gains as it soared 7.55%.

The DAX fell 0.38%. Volkswagen and Deutsche Post pulled the index down as their shares dropped 2.84% and 2.70%, respectively.

The CAC 40 ended almost flat, down 0.02%.

The pound slid 0.43% against the dollar to sell for 1.3386 and the euro lost 0.31% compared to the greenback to go for 1.1788 at 5:37 pm CET.
