UK employment rises, wages increase 2.4%

The number of people in work in the United Kingdom increased by 102,000 in the quarter ending November, the Office for National Statistics said in a release published on Wednesday, topping expectations and marking the biggest rise in employment since July. According to the update, total employment in the country amounted to 32.2 million, while the unemployment rate was at 4.3%, down from 4.8% from a year earlier, and amounting to 1.44 million jobless people.

Meanwhile, wages in Britain excluding bonuses increased by an annual 2.4% in the three months to November, rising at the fastest rate in nearly a year. Total pay growth including bonuses remained unchanged at 2.5%, in line with expectations.
