European markets start higher amid earnings, economic data

Stock markets in Europe started the Thursday trading session higher as investors digest a day full of corporate earnings reports. Nokia, Shell, Daimler and Unilever were among the major companies to reveal their results before the bell today, while US tech giants Apple, Alphabet and Amazon are posting their numbers after Wall Street closes for trading. On the data front, German, UK and Eurozone manufacturing PMI is due for release later today.

The FTSE 100 gained 0.12% to start the session higher, with BT Group telecommunications company as the best performer. The DAX rose 0.35% at the opening bell, Commerzbank leading the way. Meanwhile, the main French index CAC 40 opened 0.52% in the green, with ArcelorMittal contributing the most.

The euro lost 0.06% against the dollar to go for 1.2407 at 9:03 am CET. Meanwhile, the pound was little changed versus the greenback, adding 0.04% to sell for 1.4204 at 9:05 am CET.
