European shares start higher amid earnings, data

The European stock markets started the Wednesday trading session with gains as investors digest earnings reports posted by major companies including Credit Suisse, Thyssenkrupp and Credit Agricole. Meanwhile, on the data front, German GDP and inflation figures came in before the opening bell, while Eurozone's GDP and industrial production numbers are due for release later today.

The FTSE 100 gained 0.73% at the opening bell, with Sky the best performer. The German DAX added 0.79% to start in the green, pushed higher by Vonovia. Meanwhile, the main French index CAC 40 was up 0.39% to start the session in the positive territory, with TechnipFMC leading the gains.

The euro gained 0.18% against the dollar to go for 1.2381 at 9:04 am CET, while the pound increased 0.11% versus the greenback to sell for 1.3902 at the same time.
