Trump warns Russia of 'smart' missiles prepared for Syria
United States President Donald Trump assured Russia on Wednesday that America will be intervening militarily in Syria, despite Moscow's threat of shooting down missiles targeting Syrian government forces. He referred to the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad as the "Gas Killing Animal," alleging once again that the Syrian regime used chemical weapons in the attack on a rebel enclave in Douma, which left dozens dead.
Trump tweeted: "Russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria. Get ready Russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and “smart!” You shouldn’t be partners with a Gas Killing Animal who kills his people and enjoys it!"
Earlier in the day, Moscow's ambassador to Lebanon said Alexander Zasypkin said that "if there is an American strike, then we will shoot down the missiles and target the positions from where they were launched." On Tuesday, after a meeting with US military commanders and advisors, Trump vowed a military response to the alleged chemical weapons attack. The U-turn comes shortly after the White House announced a withdrawal of American troops from the war-torn Middle-Eastern country.
