Intel posts EPS $0.93 in Q1, up 53% YoY

Intel Corporation reported on Thursday its revenue for the first quarter of the fiscal year 2018 stood at $16.1 billion, up 13 percent year-over-year. Earnings per share were reported at $0.93, rising 53% compared to the same period of last year.

The company said net income stood at $4.5 billion, jumping 50% compared to the same quarter of 2017. Meanwhile, operating income was reported at $4.5 billion, up 23% year-on-year. The tech firm stated growth is mainly due to data-centric businesses, which accounted for 49% of first quarter revenue.

"Coming off a record 2017, 2018 is off to a strong start. Our PC business continued to execute well and our data-centric businesses grew 25 percent, accounting for nearly half of first-quarter revenue," Intel CEO Brian Krzanich stated.

Chipmaker's shares soared over 7% in after-market trading.
