Di Maio: Italy’s president should be impeached

Leader of the Italian 5-star movement Luigi Di Maio (pictured) stated that the country's President Sergio Mattarella should be impeached, following Matterella's veto on the newly-appointed Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte's bid for economy minister.

"We were a few steps away from forming a government, and we were stopped because in our cabinet there was a minister who criticized the EU," Di Maio said for RAI television.

Article 90 of the Italian constitution stipulates: "The President of the Republic is not responsible for the actions performed in the exercise of presidential duties, except in the case of high treason or violation of the Constitution. In such cases, the President may be impeached by Parliament in joint session, with an absolute majority of its members."
