Putin: Bolton's visit gives 'hope' relations to improve

Russia's President Vladimir Putin told John Bolton, White House national security advisor, that his arrival to the Kremlin may help "make at least first steps" in the improvement of bilateral relations with the United States. The visit on Wednesday may pave the way to "restoring full-fledged" ties, he added and claimed his country "has never sought confrontation."

"Both sides" should see what they can do to normalize relations "based on equality and respect," according to Putin, who said communication and cooperation are "in not the best form." The president attributed the ongoing disputes with the administration Washington to "the sharp domestic political fight" within the US.

The two governments are negotiating about a summit between Putin and US President Donald Trump.
