Trump slams Merkel for gas pipeline with Russia

German Chancellor Angela Merkel stressed on Wednesday after a meeting with United States President Donald Trump that the two countries are "partners" and added expressed optimism about the future of their relations. Speaking to reporters during a summit of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in Brussels, he raised the issue of Germany's Nord Stream 2 project with Russia, which includes laying two additional gas lines.

The US president said he believes trade with Europe's largest economy would increase. They both highlighted the significance of the sector. However, Trump asserted they spoke about military spending, while Merkel mentioned their encounter included a discussion about migration.
