Putin proposes boosting bilateral ties to Macron

Russia's President Vladimir Putin (pictured left) said the relations with France are being gradually restored as the two countries are establishing regular mechanisms of cooperation again. The improvement enables further progress, he told President Emmanuel Macron (right) on Sunday before the World Cup finals between France and Croatia in Moscow.

A meeting should be organized soon within the framework of a large interparliamentary commission, Putin said and expressed hope the two sides would overcome all current issues and challenges from the past.

Earlier, the Kremlin indicated it expects Macron to inform Putin about the outcome of the summit of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in Brussels. The government in Moscow signaled the two heads of state may discuss the situation in Syria and Ukraine and the fate of Iran's nuclear deal.
