Kudlow: I hear Merkel is working to lower tariffs

Larry Kudlow, director of the National Economic Council of the United States, said China seems to be open to the reduction of import barriers. Speaking at Delivering Alfa on Wednesday, the trade negotiator said his collocutors, whom he didn't name, indicated the government in Beijing want to make a deal to overcome tension. Turning to the trade dispute with the European Union, President Donald Trump's top aide said Jean-Claude Juncker, head of the European Commission, is apparently coming to Washington with a significant free trade offer, while that German Chancellor Angela Merkel is working behind the scenes within the bloc to lower import tariffs.

He acknowledged negotiations with China have stalled, but claimed the most populous nation could finish the exchange of blows instantly. Asked about the US fiscal reform, Kudlow asserted that tax cuts are expensive, however he added they are a good investment.
