Ex-S. Korean president sentenced to 8 more years in jail
Former South Korean President Park Geun-hye was sentenced to another eight years in prison, the Seoul District Court ruled in a televised verdict on Friday.
The court found Park guilty of interfering in parliamentary elections during her presidential term and getting off-book funds from the country's National Intelligence Service. Park, who refused to attend the trial which she described as "politically motivated," was also ordered to pay 3.3 billion won (US$2.91 million).
In April, Park was sentenced to 24 years in jail over corruption charges, including bribery, abuse of power and coercion. She was earlier impeached as a result of the corruption scandal in relation to business dealings of her confidante Choi Soon-sil.
