Kudlow: No EU steel or car tariffs 'if the deal works through'

United States National Economic Council Director Larry Kudlow said the administration could cancel steel and car tariffs imposed on imports from the European Union "if the deal works through nicely." However, he did not make any definitive assertions, claiming he does not want to "get ahead of it."

Kudlow repeated that US President Donald Trump is a "free trader" and "wants to have no tariffs," but he also defended Trump's decision to introduce punitive measures because the president "inherited a completely broken world trading system" and is "trying to fix it." Kudlow approved of tariffs "if they're targeted for good purpose," and cited China as an example of such a case. "China has not played by the rules. And the trading system is broken, largely because of them," he stated.
