Europe closes higher as US, China seek new trade talks

European equities finished trading on Tuesday in the green after it was reported the United States and China are looking at ways to restart negotiations in order to ease the ongoing trade war. According to sources, representatives of US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Chinese Vice Premier Liu He are having private conversations aimed to engage the world's largest economies in talks again before a full-blown trade war emerges.

Additionally, investors keep watch over corporate earnings, with Lufthansa, BP, Sanofi, and Credit Suisse among others.

The DAX gained 0.06%, propped up by Lufthansa soaring over 8% following the release of the company's second-quarter earnings. Meanwhile, the CAC 40 advanced 0.52% as Vivendi surged nearly 4%. In London, the FTSE 100 finished the session 0.62% higher with mining company Fresnillo rising 4.23% as the top performer. The euro traded flat against the dollar at 5:50 pm CET, buying 1.17058.
