WH reaffirms Iran sanctions

A senior White House official stated on Monday that the United States President Donald Trump has signed a directive that has reimposed the sanctions against Tehran following Washington's withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal, local media reported. According to the reports, during a telephone press briefing, a top official noted that Trump "has been very clear - none of this needs to happen," adding that the president was still ready to negotiate with Iranian leaders "at any time."

"Our policy is based on a clear-eyed assessment of the Iranian dictatorship, its sponsorship of terrorism, and its continuing aggression in the Middle East and all around the world," stated the president in an official document.

Earlier today, US Secretary of state confirmed the sanctions against Iran will be reinforced in full, stressing the importance of pushing back "against Iranian malign activity." The sanctions are set to take effect just after midnight.
