Trudeau, Trump look forward to trade talks - Ottawa

Justin Trudeau, the Prime Minister of Canada, had a "constructive conversation" on the phone earlier in the day with his American counterpart, Donald Trump, in which they discussed revising the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the progress that Washington made with Mexico on trade, a statement from Trudeau's office said.

"The leaders welcomed the progress that has been made in discussions with Mexico and look forward to having their teams engage this week with a view to a successful conclusion of negotiations," the release stated.

Despite being the third signatory to the North American Trade Agreement (NAFTA), Canada was left out of the newly reached trade deal between the United States and Mexico. Separate trade negotiations between Ottawa and Washington are set to continue on Tuesday, when Canada's Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland will travel to the US capital.
