Freeland: Very good conversation with US, Mexico

Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland said that she feels optimistic about the progress in trade talks Canada made today with the United States and Mexico. She added that Canadian government officials have been closely engaged in working on the trade agreement issues for more than a year and that they worked "extremely hard" trying to reach a deal with Washington.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated yesterday that he ïs looking forward" to signing a free trade deal with the US and Mexico if it is "good for Canada," adding he will not approve of any deal that goes against Canada's national interests. Trudeau supported the progress in talks on auto industry issues, but he added that his position on the issue of Canadian farmers remains unchanged and that he has to defend them.
