Canada's Freeland says NAFTA deal with US 'not there yet'

Canada's Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland stated on Friday that her country and the United States "are not there yet" on the deal regarding the overhauled North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Freeland added that the Canadian government will always stand up for national interests, and is looking for "a good deal, not just any deal."

Freeland went on to say that even though her US counterpart, Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer has a good understanding of the Canadian position in the negotiations, the two sides began the talks "very far apart." She added that the talks will resume later today, while the two sides will be looking for a "win-win" situation.
