Trump: If Congress is fair, it will approve USMCA

United States President Donald Trump said on Monday that the trade deal his administration reached with Mexico and Canada will be approved if the Congress is "fair." According to Trump, the USMCA should pass easily since the Congress approved the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) which was "one of the worst deals ever made." The president insisted that Republicans and the US industry "love" the new agreement.

However, he acknowledged that Democrats might try to "throw one of the greatest deals" in the country's history for "political purposes" in case they win the majority in the upcoming midterm elections. Trump claimed US Democrats always aim to "resist, delay and obstruct" without even knowing what they are resisting.

Responding to a question on whether he believes Mexico and Canada will approve the USMCA, Trump said he cannot know that, but stressed the leaders of the other two North American countries are satisfied with the agreement and added the USMCA is a good deal for all three sides.
