Trump: China, others were dumping 'dead steel' to US

Donald Trump, president of the United States, asserted "mines are opening up now" as the government moved to protect its steel industry. Speaking in front of the White House on Monday, he claimed "a lot of bad things" were in imported steel and that China and other countries were "dumping massive amounts." He said "dead steel" is a weaker material and that the dispute is "not just economic."

If import tariffs weren't introduced, the unfair suppliers would "knock out" all factories and then double or triple prices, according to Trump. He stressed the US may "not have to use" barriers, but that a favorable agreement would need to be reached.
