EU drops November Brexit summit plans - report

European Union leaders abandoned plans for another Brexit summit in November, Sky News reported citing sources familiar with the negotiations. The EU27 agreed "not enough progress has been achieved" at the meeting on Wednesday, while President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani said nothing "substantially new in terms of content" was said.

According to the report, the leaders "stand ready to convene a European Council if and when" chief EU Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier signals there was "decisive progress." They also reaffirmed their "full confidence" in Barnier, who warned "a lot more time than just a couple of weeks" is needed for a deal to be finalized with the British government. United Kingdom's Prime Minister Theresa May stated a deal can be reached, although some crucial issues remain, such as the Irish border backstop and the duration of the transition period.
