UK, France, Germany want details on Khashoggi

In a joint statement issued on Sunday, the United Kingdom, France and Germany condemned "in the strongest possible terms" what they called "killing" and "the violent death" of Saudi journalist and dissident Jamal Khashoggi. The confirmation that he lost his life in the kingdom's consulate in Istanbul "still comes as a shock," they said and stressed "nothing can justify" it.

The freedom of expression and free press are crucial, the three nations underscored and demanded "urgent... clarification of exactly what happened." The explanation must be "beyond the hypotheses that have been raised so far in the Saudi investigation, which need to be backed by facts to be considered credible."

Of note, Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he would unveil the details of the incident on October 23 in parliament in Ankara.
