Europe closes mostly lower after Fed signals more rate hikes

European equities closed mostly in the red on Friday after the United States Federal Reserve announced its decision to hold interest rates, but reaffirmed its hawkish sentiment. Policymakers unanimously opted to hold the federal funds rate in a range of 2% to 2.25%, while adding that they "expect that further gradual increases in the target range for the federal funds rate will be consistent with sustained expansion of economic activity."

The DAX closed flat. In Paris, the CAC 40 slumped 0.48% as Kering and TechnipFMC both sank over 3%. Meanwhile, the FTSE 100 lost 0.49%; Chilean company Antofagasta tanked 4.99%. The euro declined 0.23% against the dollar at 5:35 pm CET, buying 1.13342.
