BHP: unplanned outages cost us $600M

Mining company BHP said that a series of unplanned production outages led to a "negative impact" of about $600 million.

BHP said that a train derailment in Western Australia, a fire at Spence copper mine in Chile and an unexpected outage at Olympic Dam affected BHP's productivity during the second half of 2018.

The mining giant however said that production guidance for the 2019 financial year remains unchanged for petroleum, iron ore and coal. Its forecast for copper output was changed to between 1645 and 1740 kilotons.
