US lawmakers reach spending deal 'in principle'

United States lawmakers reached agreement on a government spending bill "in principle" according to Republican Senator Richard Shelby. If adopted, the bill will avoid another potential shutdown, as government funding expires on Friday.

"We reached an agreement in principle between us on all the homeland security and the other six bills," Shelby stated. He added details are yet to be worked out and did not offer any details of the deal. Meanwhile, Democratic Senator Patrick Leahy said the two parties are "trying to show some unity" and that the negotiators' goal is to "wrap this up tonight."

US President Donald Trump kept insisting on funds for a wall on the Mexican border, insisting that the Democrats involved in the negotiations are behaving "irrationally" and are "unwilling to give dollars for the obviously needed wall." Neither senator said whether any funding for the wall has been agreed on.
