Border deal to provide $1.4B for wall - reports

The border security deal agreed by United States lawmakers on Tuesday will provide around $1.4 billion for roughly 80 kilometers of new border barriers, various media reported citing sources familiar with the matter.

A congressional official familiar with the agreement said that the framework would set $1.375 billion aside for barriers along the border, including 82 kilometers of new fencing which would have certain restrictions on the locations. The official spoke on condition of anonymity as the agreement had not been made public yet. The deal will also do away with the detention bed limits for Immigrations and Customs Enforcements previously demanded by Democrats, which had threatened to completely scupper the talks.

Republican Senator Richard Shelby said earlier on Tuesday that United States lawmakers had reached an agreement on a government spending bill "in principle." The bill will avert another potential shutdown if it is adopted, as government funding is due to expire on Friday.
